One killer insight to stash in your back pocket

š Messiās Last Dance Ends as Spain Claims Footballās Throne
The 2026 World Cup final had everything: overtime drama, a first-ever halftime show that looked like the Super Bowl on steroids, Donald Trump handing out medals, and what was almost certainly Lionel Messiās final act on footballās biggest stage.
Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1ā0 in extra time at MetLife Stadium after Ferran Torres finally broke through in the 106th minute.
Goalkeeper Emiliano MartĆnez kept Argentina alive with a string of saves, but Enzo FernĆ”ndezās late red card opened the door for Spainās winner.
š„ Records Smashed:
Spain became the first nation ever to simultaneously hold both the menās and womenās World Cup crowns.
FIFA 2026 has been projected to be the most lucrative in history, earning ~$9 billion from the World Cup.
FIFA 2026 also smashed records for highest combined attendance at ~6.8 million people.
š¦š· Meanwhile, the world watched Messi, now 39, walk off a World Cup field for what is expected to be the last time.
Cameras caught him in tears during the medal ceremony as Argentine fansāfrom Times Square to Buenos Airesā Obeliskākept singing long after the final whistle.
⨠Off the pitch, FIFA leaned fully into American spectacle:
Tom Cruise opened the festivities, Jennifer Hudson performed the national anthem, and the tournamentās first-ever halftime show featured everyone from Madonna and BTS to Justin Bieber, Shakira, and Burna Boy.
President Trump and First Lady Melania attended from a heavily secured suite, making Trump the first sitting U.S. President to attend a menās World Cup final in person.
Other dignitaries included Spanish PM Pedro SƔnchez, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, and Canadian PM Mark Carney.
ā½ Bottom line: America just showed the world how FIFA is done!

š¬š§ UK Gets Its 7th PM in a Decade ā No Vote Required
PM Keir Starmer resigned admitting he'd "heard the answer" from a party in revolt over poor polling and Reform UK's surge under Nigel Farage.
King Charles III accepted PM Starmerās resignation today, after which Starmer made his final speech outside Downing Street to a crowd of supporters.
Then, Labourās Andy Burnham was invited by King Charles to form a government after a leadership contest so lopsided it barely qualified as one.
Burnham's pitch: a "circuit-breaker" economic reset, ending rough sleeping (homelessness), and a 10-year Plan for Britain due later this year.
š” Bottom line: Britain didn't hold an election ā it just swapped captains mid-storm.
š„· Iran Says Jordanian Sources Helped Target U.S. Base
The IRGC launched ballistic missiles and drones at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan on July 17, killing two American service members ā 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19 ā with several more wounded.
Explosive: Iran claims the strike used intelligence from Jordanian citizens to pinpoint US positions ā an unverified allegation Jordan hasn't confirmed or denied, and one consistent with past Iranian propaganda during escalations.
US deaths in the broader conflict now stand around 16ā17.
š” Bottom line: Whether or not the intel claim holds up, the message is the same ā no US base in the region is out of range.
š¢ Houthis Declare "Eye for an Eye" Blockade on Saudi Arabia
Yemen's Houthis announced an immediate naval blockade on Saudi shipping today, framing it as payback for what they call a 12-year Saudi "siege" on Yemen.
Spokesman Yahya Saree called it "blockade for blockade" ā and the target is the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a chokepoint for 7-12% of global trade and a major artery for Saudi oil to Asia.
The move shatters the fragile 2022 Saudi-Houthi truce and lines up with Iran's broader push to squeeze US allies and energy routes across the region, from Hormuz to the Red Sea.
š” Bottom line: The Middle East just found a new way to threaten the world's oil supply ā and this one comes with a decade-old grudge attached.

Political Drama From DC To NYC

š„ Armed Man Firebombs ICE Building in Manhattan
An armed man with a known history of anti-ICE activity dragged a cart reading "ICE off our streets" to 26 Federal Plaza this morning, igniting fireworks doused in flammable liquid that set off explosions and smoke outside the building ā home to NYC's immigration court, ICE, and FBI offices.
The suspect is identified as a 43 year old man from Poughkeepsie.
He also menaced bystanders with airsoft guns before NYPD's Bomb Squad cleared the scene.
Two people suffered minor injuries. The suspect was arrested on site.
š”The Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating the incident.
šļø Bill Maher: "My Vote's in Play" for 2028
Bill Maher told ABC's Jonathan Karl, āIām not living in communist Americaā ā calling Democrats "cowardly" for letting far-left elements like the DSA hijack the party's platform on capitalism, Israel, and crime.
He's not registering independent or endorsing Republicans. But after years of losing left-leaning fans for pushing back on "crazy stuff on the Left," Maher says he judges candidates individually now ā not by party line.
š” Maher's not just venting ā he's saying out loud what a lot of moderate Democrats are quietly thinking, as the party drifts toward its radical flank.

š¬Netflix Just Bought Ben Affleckās AI Studio
Netflix quietly spent $587 million to acquire InterPositive, the AI filmmaking startup co-founded by Ben Affleck, according to a recent SEC filing.
The companyās software helps editors relight scenes, fix continuity mistakes, remove unwanted objects, and automate visual effects using a productionās original footage.
The 16-person team has now joined Netflix, while Affleck will stay on as a senior advisor.
ā” The technology is already being used across roughly 300 Netflix projects this year, with some productions reportedly finishing in half the time and at half the cost.
āļø Judge Hits Pause on $110B Media Mega-Merger
A federal judge just froze Paramount Skydance's $110B bid for Warner Bros. Discovery ā a 14-day restraining order requested by 12 states, led by California AG Rob Bonta, who argue the deal would gut competition across film, TV, and streaming.
Paramount says the merger would actually create a stronger Netflix rival. The states aren't buying it ā a full hearing is set for August 3.
ā” One of the biggest media deals in history just hit a legal wall, and the clock's ticking.
