📜THE HIGHLIGHT

One killer insight to stash in your back pocket

🚨 Gracie Mansion IED Attack: NYC’s Political Protests Just Hit a New Level

Two Pennsylvania men were arrested after throwing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during chaotic protests outside NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s residence at Gracie Mansion on March 7.

  • The 2 devices — jars packed with bolts, screws, and a fuse — were capable of serious injury or death, according to investigators.

  • They failed to fully detonate, but emitted smoke and flames, triggering panic among protesters.

This is being investigated as an act of ISIS-inspired terrorism.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch

💥 ISIS’s Signature Explosive:

Initial tests confirm that one of the devices contained ISIS’s signature TATP (“Mother of Satan”), a highly unstable, homemade explosive made from common chemicals like acetone and hydrogen peroxide.

  • It’s extremely sensitive to shock/friction/heat

  • It was used in the Paris 2015, Brussels 2016 and London 7/7 attacks

🥷 The suspects: Authorities identified the attackers as Emir Balat, 18, and Ibrahim Kayumi, 19, both from Pennsylvania.

  • Investigators say the pair consumed ISIS propaganda videos and cited the terror group as inspiration.

  • Balat also recently traveled to Turkey; now under review by federal investigators.

💣 Why the protest turned volatile:

The confrontation erupted during dueling demonstrations — anti-Islam protesters tied to pro-Trump activist Jake Lang clashing with counter-protesters during Ramadan.

👮 NYPD’s response:

Officers courageously charged toward the smoking devices, cleared the area, and conducted bomb sweeps. No injuries were reported.

💡Bottom line: FBI raided their homes on Sunday and both have been charged with terrorism. If convicted, they’ll likely face decades if not life in prison.

♟️THE CHESSBOARD

Geopolitics Decoded In 3 Moves

👑 Iran's New Supreme Leader: Meet the Heir to the Throne

Iran's Assembly of Experts appointed Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, as Supreme Leader on March 8 — nine days after US-Israeli airstrikes killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

  • This makes Mojtaba, Iran’s highest religious authority and commander-in-chief of its armed forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

  • A Qom-trained cleric, Mojtaba has deep Revolutionary Guards ties but no prior public office.

  • Trump said he’s not happy. Putin offered him “unwavering support.”

💡Bottom line: Tehran’s choice signals continuity within Iran’s ruling clerical establishment during a period of war and internal pressure.

🔌 Cuba's Lights Are Out — And So Is the Government's Credibility

Rolling blackouts since March 4 have left parts of Cuba dark for 60+ hours, triggering pot-banging protests across Havana with crowds chanting for electricity, food, and freedom.

  • Government blames US sanctions and fuel shortages. Cubans are blaming Havana.

  • Police deployments and internet cuts followed. Classic playbook.

  • President Díaz-Canel has promised repairs. He's promised before.

💡Bottom line: When a government can't keep the lights on, it's not an infrastructure crisis — it's a legitimacy crisis.

🗳 Nepal's Gen Z Just Elected a Rapper as Prime Minister

Nepal's snap elections delivered a landslide for the Rastriya Swatantra Party, with rapper-turned-politician Balendra Shah poised to become Prime Minister after winning 124 of 165 declared seats.

  • This comes less than a year after Gen Z protesters burned parliament and toppled the communist government.

  • Shah personally crushed ex-PM KP Sharma Oli in his home district — 68,348 votes to 18,734.

  • RSP swept all 15 Kathmandu Valley seats. Traditional parties were decimated.

💡Bottom line: Nepal's Gen Z didn't just protest the establishment — they replaced it.

🗽THE EMPIRE FILES

Political Drama From DC To NYC

🕊 Jesse Jackson’s Memorial: A Nation Says Its Final Goodbyes

Memorial services for Rev. Jesse Jackson culminated in Chicago over the March 6–7 weekend, drawing thousands and a roster of top Democratic figures.

  • A public “People’s Celebration” at House of Hope church featured remarks from Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Joe Biden, alongside Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.

  • Performances included Jennifer Hudson and gospel singers Marvin and Bebe Winans.

  • A private homegoing service followed at Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters.

Jackson spent six decades pushing America closer to its promise — and this weekend’s tributes underscored how deeply his life’s work shaped a generation of leaders.

✈️ Spring Break 2026: Brought to You by Congressional Dysfunction

A partial government shutdown since February 13 has left 50,000 TSA screeners working without pay — and American airports are feeling it hard during peak spring break travel.

  • Lines at Houston Hobby hit 3.5 hours. New Orleans queues stretched to parking garages.

  • Over 1,100 officers quit since late 2025.

  • 171 million passengers expected this season. The math doesn't work.

Democrats and Republicans are fighting over border policy. Travelers are paying the price — in hours.

🤖 CODES & POWER

Tech Wars, Crypto Chaos, and AI’s Black Mirror Moments

Anthropic vs. The Pentagon

Anthropic filed two federal lawsuits today, challenging the Trump administration after the Pentagon labeled the company a “supply chain risk.”

  • The designation bars federal agencies and defense contractors from using Anthropic’s tech after a Feb. 27 directive ordered a government-wide phaseout.

  • The dispute erupted after Anthropic refused Pentagon demands for unrestricted access to its Claude AI model, rejecting uses tied to mass surveillance or autonomous weapons.

  • The company says the move violates the First Amendment and federal contracting law.

Market twist: Rival OpenAI quickly secured a Pentagon AI contract after the ban.

🤖 OpenAI’s New AI Security Weapon

OpenAI is acquiring AI security startup Promptfoo to harden its fast-growing AI agent platform. Promptfoo builds tools to stress-test LLMs, spotting vulnerabilities and running automated red-team attacks.

  • Its tech will plug into OpenAI Frontier, the company’s enterprise platform for autonomous AI agents.

  • Promptfoo's tools are already used by 25% of Fortune 500 companies — OpenAI didn't build trust, it bought it.

  • The startup raised just $23M and was valued at $86M. Likely a significant premium paid.

AI agents are only as powerful as they are secure. OpenAI just admitted it needed help.
